In August 2009, Mikko Sidoroff started his work as the choir’s conductor. the choir’s repertoire mainly consists of a wide variety of a cappella songs. the choir can be found performing in Turku as well as other cities many times throughout the year. Traditionally, there is a quartet concert in January, a spring concert right after May Day (Vappu) and an advent concert in December. the TYY Choir has participated in many venues outside of Turku. the choir represented Finland in the international choir competition in Coleraine, Ireland in 2006. the competition could not have gone any better as the choir won in the category of mixed choir and was given the award as best choir. With a membership of 65-70 musicians from throughout the campus, this ensemble is quickly becoming recognized for its musical excellence. Recent concerts have included Johann Sebastian Bach’s Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden, Samuel Barber’s Reincarnations and Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb. Strong sight-reading skills and musicianship are important to membership. This ensemble is directed by Dr. Jonathan Babcock, associate director of choral activities. It was officially inaugurated in September 2011 and was widely attended by thousands of choral music lovers across the country. the group has performed at numerous high profile functions like the international leadership awards night (tuzoya oungozi), national peace makers rally at the national theater among others. the group also embarked on a nationwide peace campaign tour which was dubbed "11.11.12 - Sing Ghana 4 peace". the choir is noted for music evangelism and charity projects in Ghana.
