This concert was the culmination of a six-week project which creates a choir from scratch for one Night only. Each winter and summer, Chris Rowbury gathers a random bunch of singers from in and around Ipswich. There are no auditions and All songs are taught and learnt by ear. South Salem High School's Symphonic Choir preforming at the Oregon 6A choir championships. The fabulous amazing spectacular Carol Stenson is their Long standing director. South Salem took FIRST PLACE at Oregon's State Competition. This was their second song of four. This whole competition took place at George Fox University in Newburg Oregon. The South Salem Saxons also took first at their Districts festival in Salem/Keizer Oregon.
First Place : South Salem High School 'Saxons"
Tied Second Place (alphabetical order) : Canby High School 'Cougars' and Sprague High School 'Olympians'
Fourth Place : West Salem High School 'Titans'

Erik Satie's Sarabande No. 1 is one of my favourite piano pieces. For a Long time, I felt there was an a cappella choral piece hiding within it, in plain sight. One day I got inspired and gave it a try.
Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece ha... moreErik Satie's Sarabande No. 1 is one of my favourite piano pieces. For a Long time, I felt there was an a cappella choral piece hiding within it, in plain sight. One day I got inspired and gave it a try.
Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece has its chAllenges. I tried to keep faithful to Satie's original musical inspiration and created lyrics to go with my arrangement that evoke an early summer morning, one of my favourite times of the year.
Several months later, I applied to be a participant at one of the Vancouver Chamber Choir's Interplay workshops funded by the SOCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted.
"As dawn breaks" was one of the pieces that this amazing choir sight read for me on the spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and choir members then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful.

We waited for a Long time when we would meet again at the hAlls of the Gdańsk University of Technology and sing together. Although maintaining the required distance and security measures, we managed to meet for a few rehearsals, which we decided to end with a concert :)
