Students who have been...  moreThe Chorale is the premier, choral ensemble of the University. The ensemble consists of approximately 24-32 vocalists selected through a voice placement process and performs traditional/advanced choral literature from all periods. Students who have been active in choral ensembles in high school or college are encouraged to audition for this choir. Auditions for Chorale can take place at anytime to fill necessary spots in the group. Once students are selected for Chorale, they are members until they choose to leave, are removed, or when they graduate. In addition to its regular concert schedule, the Chorale tours each spring (Orlando, ’09; NYC, ’10; Atlanta, ’11, Boston, ’12, Orlando, ’13). A yearly scholarship is offered to people who are successfully placed in the group.  less

Members of the choir are auditioned, multi-generational, and range in age from 17 to senior citizens. Performance music includes a wide variety of musical styles. Performances take place in local churches, theaters, etc. The Chorale programs two rehearsal and concert seasons each year. Artistic Director & Conductor Jan Lanterman and Associate Conductor Jason Nett conduct rehearsals and performances.

While the majority of the singers are undergraduate music majors, membership is open to all students at the university through an audition process. The group has achieved an impressive reputation of excellence, having been chosen each of the last twenty years to perform at conventions or festivals around the country: the Pennsylvania Music Educators State Conference; the Eastern Division Music Educators National Conference; the Music Educators National Convention; the American Choral Directors Association Pennsylvania State Conference, and the ACDA Eastern Division Convention. The choir is renowned on the international stage as well, representing the US at competitions and festivals around the world. Founded in 2003 by ex-choristers of Westminster Abbey, VOCES8 first achieved success in 2005, winning first prize at the International Choral Grand Prix in Gorizia, Italy.
