CONspirare was founded in 1991 to present a summer classical music festival in Austin, Texas. Since then, the organization has grown rapidly to become an internationally recognized, professional choral organization that combines outstanding vocal artistry with innovative programming. Led by renowned founding artistic director Craig Hella Johnson, CONspirare is comprised of two adult ensembles and two youth choirs. The five-time Grammy-nominated chamber choir CONspirare, with extraordinarily talented singers from around the country, is presented in an annual CONcert series in Austin and other Texas communities, tours in the U.S. and abroad, and records on the Harmonia Mundi label. The CONspirare Symphonic Choir of both professional and volunteer singers performs at least one large choral/orchestral work annually in Austin and often collaborates with the Austin Symphony and other performing organizations. Lyrics by William Shakespeare (1564/1616) from "The Tempest"
All parts are performed by Matthew Curtis
- "Before you can say, "Come and go",
And breathe twice, and cry, "So,so"
Each one, tripping on his toe,
Will be here with mop and (mow)
(Do you love me, master?no?)"
"Where the bee sucks there (suck) I:
In a cow-slips (bell) I lie;
There I couch when owls do cry.
On a bat's back (I do) fly
After (summer) merrily,
Merrily, merrily shall I live now
Under the blossom that hangs on the bough" less

set to music for six part mixed voices SAT-SAT)
The title of this work (Canticula Ursae Minoris/Songs of the Little Bear) comes from the origin of the melodies:
Many years ago I wrote an "Oratorio" based on Winnie the Pooh (The Expotition to the North Pole)
and gave each character little melodic leitmotifs,
such as "Sing ho for the life of a bear" (which becomes "to be a light to lighten the Gentiles" in the Nunc Dimittis),
"They all went off to discover the pole" (which is the initial theme of the Magnificat)
and "What I say, said Eeyore, is that it's unsettling" (which becomes the "Glory be to the Father" section at the end of each canticle)
The original and much simpler "oratorio" work, called Poohratorio of course, may be published once AA Milne goes into public domain (2031).

This auditioned choir has 150 adult mixed voices and 300 youth mixed voices rehearsing weekly to bring various masterworks, original pieces, collaborations and new arrangements to the ears of many.
Doug Mears is the Artistic Director with Patrick Vaughn as Youth Director. Youth Choruses have two CONvenient campuses with the professional support of Caroline Crocker and Bonny Tynch and Youth Chorus Directors. Additionally, full time accompanists and music educators meet the rehearsal and music education portions of this semi-professional chorus.
FCS is honored to work with renown musicians, CONductors and orchestras to present the finest choral programs available. Sometimes we join other choruses to produce even larger musical works. The choral offerings of the Fairfax Choral Society are diverse though always presented after CONcerted rehearsal and production.
