The poem above is sometimes called “I Am” Due to its repetition of the phrase. Was the poem inspired? The Hebrew name for God, YHWH, means “I am” or “I am that I am.” And there does seem to be something magical about the poem, as it was written by a woman who, to our knowledge, had never written a poem before. Mary Elizabeth Frye was an orphan with no formal education. In 1932 she and her husband hosted a young Jewish woman, Margaret Schwarzkopf, who was fleeing the Holocaust. When she received news that her mother had died in Germany, the heartbroken houseguest told Frye in despair that she had never had the chance to “stand by my mother’s grave and shed a tear.” Frye found herself composing the poem above on a ripped-off section of a brown paper shopping bag. She said the words “just came to her.” less

Due to its diligent and devoted work, with repertoire including pieces by Croatian and other authors spanning from the Renaissance to the 21st century, the choir reached high quality of interpretation, soon recognized by audience. After many successful performances in Split and the region, the choir started to participate in various national and international choral competitions, having achieved notable results. Thus, the short but interesting history of the choir includes:
- 3rd place at “Croatian Choral Assembly” in 2009 and 2011, and 1st place at this competition in 2010, 2012 and 2013;
- two silver certificates at international choral competition “Slovakia Cantat 2010”;
- awards won at the competition “Cro Patria” (3rd award of the jury in 2010 and 1st award of the audience in 2012);
- two silver medals at World Choir Championships held in Graz in Ju... less

Being trapped in our homes Due to COVID-19 didn’t keep us from singing together – quarantine rather boosted our creativity and turned white walls and bed sheets, smartphones and bookshelves into almost professional home studios.
From rehearsing to audio recording and video production, the physical distance between us couldn’t stop our passion for making music together. In times that make us realize what’s most important to us, we felt closer than ever and really understood that … we don’t need fancy!

Idris was adamant that there should be a male choir in the Blackwood area and so advertised his intent to the local people. His campaign received a good response and led to a meeting being held by the interested parties with the choir being formed in April of the same year. The design of the Choir's badge has changed a little since then with pupils from the local Libanus Primary School (where the choir used to rehearse) entering a competition to design the new badge which is still in use today.
The Choir has travelled widely over the years performing and raising lots of money for charitable causes wherever it goes. It has appeared in concerts at internationally recognised venues such as The Grand Hall at Eton College, The Royal Albert Hall (a... less
