Renee Mitchell, spoken word Emmanuel Henreid, spoken word THE COMPOSER WRITES: There comes a time in every child’s life when they will have “the talk” with a trusted adult. That talk is usually centered around topics relating to sexual maturation – the birds and the bees. However, in the life of a black child, there’s an additional talk that needs to happen: what to do if they are pulled over or have an encounter with the police. It boils down to four basic principles with the fourth being the ultimate goal: 1. Pull over. Don’t run. Keep calm; 2. Keep Your hands where they can see them; 3. Be polite. Save Your rage; 4. We took part of our rehearsal last night to honor Black History Month and celebrate the diversity of our Chorus. What better way to celebrate than with song. We chose "Oh Happy Day"' a late '60s gospel song with its roots from an 18th-century hymn.

We are specifically aimed at experienced singers who want to work quickly in a non-regular rehearsal setting. Imagine a Book Club for Choral singers! Each session every two or three weeks, we will look at a couple of new songs, chosen by differend members of the group, from the whole history of music, form Monvererdi to Madness. We have two experienced conductor/singers who will be happy to lead any session, but all singers will be encouraged to lead their own song choices if they wish. The aim, in the first intance, is to have fun exploring as much choral repertoire as possible, in a fun and collaborative enviroment. We do not intend to book up concerts straight away - once we've had a few meetings and looked at enough repertoire then we'll think about performances. Let's work to get the music right first!
