It’s been beautifully arra...  moreThis is the story of a woman feeling old and weary and dreaming of the past she had, wondering where those good years have gone. Here, our lovely singers have made it into a conversation – a shared experienced between the women. It’s been beautifully arranged by Moira Smiley and Vida, but was written by John Prine, a Chicago folk musician. There are two new singers in this ensemble: Rosi, a deep dark bass, standing back left, and Marie, sitting at the front right with the cowboy hat on. Both singers have been a wonderful addition to our Choir. Adele in the rocking chair, Annabelle standing right, and Katherine with baby Erin (who LOVES harmony!) complete the group, all of which you have seen many times in concert! We love the song and hope you do too. With this song, we are raising money for a charity close to our hearts, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Ashburton. Philomela is a wonderful experience that will linger in your mind even after the music has died down. Philomela has become one of the most highly regarded Choirs in Finland. Marjukka Riihimäki has acted as the Choir´s conductor since it was established in 1984. Philomela is one of the most original Choirs in Finland. It is a group of 40 unprejudiced, music-loving women who together form a graceful, polyphonic musical instrument. The Choir performances are intensive and surprising experiences which combine theatrical elements to music. Philomela’s rehearsals are held in Helsinki but the Choir gives several concerts per year all over Finland as well as abroad. Musical profile of Philomela is composed of contemporary Scandinavian Choir music with flavours of world music, especially Finnish folk music.  less
