However, it also sings with instrumental accompaniment. The Choir has pieces from different ages, languages and styles in its repertoire. It gives both Turkey and world premieres of songs. It premiered The concerto Romeo and Juliet, composed by The conductor Agosyan last year. This auditioned SATB Choir has a long history of performing high quality choral music at various events including school concerts, community events, and National conferences and festivals. Last year after winning The St John’s group choral Rosebowl, this Choir won both The Provincial Music Festival and The National Music Festival of Canada. The Choir has been featured on local television and radio programs and even performed live in concert International Children performing icons- The Wiggles. I was on The 1 train on Manhattan’s West Side one day when I saw The poem “Heaven,” by Patrick Phillips. I was immediately captured by The simple beauty of Patrick’s poem, and The mystery of The first line, “It will be The paSt.” I loved his vision and thought immediately that I wanted to compose music for this poem. Mystery, joy, wonder. “Heaven” is The winner of choral composition competitions sponsored by both The Manhattan Choral Ensemble and Georgia College. The first movement depicts The remarkable story of The captured Africans who were reduced to slaves by European settlers in The American continent, particularly in The Caribbean. The second movement recounts The indepence of Haiti; and The third movement is about The Perseverance of The country which to this day, Haiti is fighting with fury to keep its freedom. “No human being must live on Their knees; slavery in all its forms is an affront to The Divine Creator. The sense of wonder teaches us to discover all The beauty and The magnificence of The creation, and The extraordinary richness of our humanity.
