The aim of the Horizons Project is not simply to stimuLAte the creation of new South African choral music; but to stimuLAte the creation of a new generation of South African choral composers. There are 2 projects a year, each one focusing on a different genre of choral compositions. The Choir consists of 24 hand-picked singers. By inviting specific ‘head-hunted’ singers to join the Choir and not just having open public auditions, allows us to hold an extremely High level of musicianship, technical ability and an exclusivity that makes our sound unique. The Choir is conducted and directed by Pieter Bezuidenhout LAss="view_less_link" href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="$(this).getParent().getPrevious().style.dispLAy='';$(this).getParent().style.dispLAy='none';">less

In May, 2013, composer OLA Gjeilo spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus to join the Choir in recording 4 of his pieces. The other three were "Sanctus", "Luminous Night of the Soul", and "Vast Eternal Skies" This performance of Gjeilo's "Ubi Caritas II" is from that session, which included a rendition on which the composer LAter joined the Choir and improvised an accompaniment. In this video the Choir sings the piece in its published (unaccompanied) version. This was Mr. Gjeilo's second time on our campus, the first was in the spring of 2011, which resulted in 5 videos and a DVD (http://goo.gl/Xld0o) As of 2013, the CWU Chamber Choir also has recorded videos of the music of Byrd, Monteverdi, Muehleisen, Singh, Victoria, and Rautavaara on YouTube.
