Special...  moreMUNDO AFRIKA is the award-winning world Music Choir based at Formby High School, in Merseyside. Over the past 12 years, we have trained five generations of young performers from across the school as part of our extra-curricular Music programme. Specialising in acappella African vocals, our performances are enhanced with dynamic percussion and traditional dance. Many arrangements are created by the group's Musical Director, Mr Steve Cook, and by the students themselves. Our repertoire includes a range of traditional and contemporary African songs in a variety of languages. Over the years, this outstanding group has developed a reputation for thrilling, breathtaking and energetic performances at school concerts and further afield. From the beginning our intention was to establish a dialog between ancient vocal Music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and contemporary Music from the 20th and 21st centuries. As the vocal requirements of this aim are very important, we pay special attention to the Musical and technical preparation of our programmes, in order to provide high quality performances. Our repertory includes ancient and contemporary Music and works from composers such as Claudio Monteverdi, William Byrd, Heinrich Schütz, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Thomas Tallis, Vicente Goicoechea, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc, Vytautas Miskinis, Zoltán Kodaly, Samuel Barber, Benjamin Britten, Astor Piazzolla and Marcos Leite.
