The choir was founded in 1986 as Part of the church music work at the Lutheran Lindenkirchengemeinde. The Berlin Girls‘ Choir has won many awards. It was most recently awarded the OPUS KLASSIK in 2021 for the music film „STIMMENÜBERLEBEN“ (Anne Frank: A Living Voice) and the „Kinderchorlandpreis“ of the Deutsche Chorjugend for very good children‘s choir work. The choir also won several first prizes at the German Choir Competition and at international competitions in Warsaw/Poland, Venice/Italy, Helsingborg/Sweden, Neerpelt/Belgium, the Harmony Festival in Limburg, the Johannes Brahms Festival in Wernigerode and the Vienna World Piece Choral Festival. The musical programme includes polyphonic literature for equal voices from the Renaissance to the modern age. The style of singing is more 'pop' than classical and the choice of music reflects this, with the repertoire including show-tunes, popular songs from the 1930s to today, as well as classic barbershop arrangements. There are strong links to musical theatre in that most songs are choreographed, and performing skills are a key element in making a song work. We rehearse every Tuesday, 6:30pm-9:00pm, in central London between Kings Cross and St Paul's. We took Part of Our rehearsal last night to honor Black History Month and celebrate the diversity of Our Chorus. What better way to celebrate than with song. We chose "Oh Happy Day"' a late '60s gospel song with its roots from an 18th-century hymn.

This concert was the culmination of a six-week project which creates a choir from scratch for one night only. Each winter and summer, Chris Rowbury gathers a random bunch of singers from in and around Ipswich. There are no auditions and all songs are taught and learnt by ear.
