Last July, over 100 BIG Sing members flash mobbed the Maldon Tesco Store and the YouTube video has had over 16,000 views, raising money for Cancer Research UK. As well as community events, The BIG Sing have hosted their own sold out shows in Essex and have many more coming up this year! As The BIG Sing grows we are continuing to reach out to more people of all ages and backgrounds. We aim to unite people with uplifting music and have seen the choir members grow in confidence, experience the thrill of performing on stage, make new friends and belong to a new choir family. Our next opera will be a fully staged performance of JF Lampe's burlesque 'The Dragon of Wantley', a hilarious pastiche of Handel's operas, sung in English with baroque orchestra, at the lovely Victorian Normansfield Theatre. It was such a riot back in the day that it eclipsed Handel's more serious works! It is situated on the south coast of the County of Cornwall, the area of England protruding into the Atlantic Ocean facing North America. Male voice singing is traditionally very popular in the county, there being 33 federated choirs numbering 1,300 singers out of a total population of nearly half a million. The choir was formed in 1974 and quickly matured into one of the leading and largest male choirs in Cornwall. It now has over 55 members including several founder members. The choir gives around 25 concerts each year, raising many thousands of pounds for various charities. On the 10th July 2010 they celebrated their 900th public appearance. During a concert tour of Gibraltar in 1979 they performed in the famous St. Michael's Cave. Subsequent tours have been to Holland/Northern Germany, to the Black Forest area of Germany on two occasions and in 1990 the choir had a 14 day tour as guests of the Niagara Wine and Grape ...    less
