The choir gives and annual Easter and Christmas performance, an annual Summer Concert and European Tour. Their repertoire ranges from Handel’s Zadok the Priest to Karl Jenkin’s The Armed Man. The Choir has performed in many major venues around in Europe, including St Nicolas Church Prague to St Mark’s Venice, and has sung in many commercial concerts including premiere of James Brett’s Book of Dreams and performed for the Queen’s arrival at Bushy Park during her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee, where the choir also deputised for the Opera Babes. The singers in the choir are experienced musicians, many having sung with other choirs and choral societies and many are instrumentalists and instrumental music teachers. PG Carnivalesque" under the patronage of Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech, attracted several hundred people who listened to daring performances of popular pop music hits. During the performance we heard choral arrangements of hits such as: "Dancing Queen", "Memory", "California Dreamin'" and "Maria". This time it was not Mozart or Bach, but ABBA, Queen and songs from the musical West Side Story that graced the walls of the Gdansk University of Technology in carnivalesque musical artistic creations. Jazz musicians performed along with the choir, and the musical effects were accompanied by a unique lighting arrangement, which required appropriate space and audience arrangement. The more-than-hour-long performance by the Academic Choir of the Gdańsk University of Technology, conducted by Prof. Mariusz Mróz and accompanied by musicians from the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, ended with joint singing, encores and a standing ovation.  less

Hoffman. www.stanleymhoffman.com All rights reserved. The poem above is sometimes called “I Am” Due to its repetition of the phrase. Was the poem inspired? The Hebrew name for God, YHWH, means “I am” or “I am that I am.” And there does seem to be something magical about the poem, as it was written by a woman who, to our knowledge, had never written a poem before. Mary Elizabeth Frye was an orphan with no formal education. In 1932 she and her husband hosted a young Jewish woman, Margaret Schwarzkopf, who was fleeing the Holocaust. When she received news that her mother had died in Germany, the heartbroken houseguest told Frye in despair that she had never had the chance to “stand by my mother’s grave and shed a tear.” Frye found herself composing the poem above on a ripped-off section of a brown paper shopping bag. She said the words “just came to her.”  less
