The Choir is the oldest College Choir in Ghana and arguably in West Africa; established in 1964. The Choir is inspired by the mission of singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs as an act of worship to the glory of God and to minister to the souls of men. Over the years, the Choir is been noted for very inspiring and sensational concerts and oratorios that seek to fulfill the mission above. Very recent of such ministrations include; Israel in Egypt (2008 and 2010), Indulci Jubilo(2015), Handel's Chandos Anthems (2016), Singspiration (2017),and Laudate Deo (2018). The Choir has through these platforms touched the lives of many deprived entities through her social welfare responsibilities. We can't say it all and ignore the wonderful personalities the Choir has nurtured over the years. In August 2009, Mikko Sidoroff started his work as the c...  more The Student Union Choir of the University of Turku (TYY Choir for short, established in 1987) is a mixed Choir of approximately 60 singers from all the faculties and even outside the University. In August 2009, Mikko Sidoroff started his work as the Choir’s conductor. The Choir’s repertoire mainly consists of a wide variety of a cappella songs. The Choir can be found performing in Turku as well as other cities many times throughout the year. Traditionally, there is a quartet concert in January, a spring concert right after May Day (Vappu) and an advent concert in December. The TYY Choir has participated in many venues outside of Turku. The Choir represented Finland in the international Choir competition in Coleraine, Ireland in 2006. The competition could not have gone any better as the Choir won in the category of mixed Choir and was given the award as best Choir. The Choir continues the tradition of the Akademski pevski zbor v Ljubljani (Academic Choir of the University of Ljubljana) founded in 1926 by France Marolt, which consisted of male singers only. In the years between 1938 and 1940 Marolt also conducted the Female Academic Choir. After the cultural silence held during the Second World War, the Choir recommenced its activity, this time as a mixed Choir under a new name, Akademski pevski zbor Tone Tomšič. The Choir has always been led by recognized conductors such as: France Marolt, Radovan Gobec, Janez Bole, Lojze Lebič, Igor Lavrič, Marko Munih, Jože Fürst, Jernej Habjanič and Stojan Kuret.
