Sung by the Fulham Children's Choir, Musical director: Christopher Wray, Piano: Marcus Andrews and Charles Economou Songs and Cries of London town by Bob Chilcott and varied choral cantata in five movements for STAB choir, upper-voice choir, piano duet, ...  moreSung by the Fulham Children's Choir, Musical director: Christopher Wray, Piano: Marcus Andrews and Charles Economou Songs and Cries of London town by Bob Chilcott and varied choral cantata in five movements for STAB choir, upper-voice choir, piano duet, and optional percussion. The two outer movements draw their words and inspiration from boisterous cries of 17th century market vendors as once featured in 'The Cries of London' by Orlando Gibbbons. The second movement features the words of a Scottish poet, William Dunbar (c. 1460-c.1520), in which he praises the English capital, and includes the line 'London, thou art the flower of cities all'. together, these settings evoke a surprisingly contemporary impression of London's sights, sounds, and moods, inspiring some irresistible music, by turns contemplative and unquenchably thrilling. This 'capital' cantata was written in 2001 for the Diamond Jubilee of the Barnet Choral Society, of which Chilcott is President.  less

From a cappella favourites to the sacred music of the Last millennium they are outstanding in both Comedy and the Classics. They have recorded 13 solo albums, performed over 2,000 concerts and more than 200 TV appearances worldwide. Their arrangements will be appearing in the Edition Peters catalogue soon.

With a membership of around 80, we are an eclectic bunch of people who share a common love of choral music. We offer new singers a warm welcome and the opportunity to take part in choral concerts in London four times a year, plus various other events and weekend trips away both abroad and in the UK. There is a thriving though optional social side to choir life including drinks after Monday night rehearsals and occasional choir social evenings and other events. The Choir's repertoire ranges widely from staple works such as Bach's St Matthew Passion and Mendelssohn's Elijah to more unusual and rarely heard works by composers such as Jonathan Dove and the Choir's music director Jonathan Rathbone. It recorded Richard Maunder's new edition of Mozart's Requiem under its former music director Murray Stewart, and in 2009-10 the Choir released a CD of the Choir's repertoire, Where'er You Walk, to celebrat...    less
