It was a winner of the 2018 Uncommon Music Festival Composition Competition. It is accessible for all fine high school, collegiate and community choral ensembles. In May, 2013, composer Ol...  more"Luminous Night of the Soul" (Ola Gjeilo) is sung by the Central Washington University Chamber Choir (Gary Weidenaar, director) joined by Ola Gjeilo on the piano and the Kairos String Quartet (comprised of CWU string faculty). In May, 2013, composer Ola Gjeilo spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus, joining the Choir in recording 4 of his pieces. This performance of Gjeilo's "Luminous Night of the Soul" is from that session. the other pieces were "Sanctus" for a cappella Choir, and "Across the Vast, Eternal Sky", also with the composer at the piano and joined by the Kairos Quartet. the final piece, "Ubi Caritas II: Through Infinite Ages", was recorded both in an unaccompanied rendition (how it is written and published) and in a version with Mr. Gjeilo improvising an accompaniment to the Choir. This was Ola's second time on CWU's campus. His first visit was in the spring of 2011 and yielded 5 videos of his Music, a wide-ranging interview with the composer and other bonus material...    less

Winner of the first prize in Warsaw International Choir Festival 2007. Our repertoire contains International Music, but especially Arabic songs from different heritages (Lebanese, Palestinian, Egyptian, Iraqi, Syrian, Mouashah...). And for the first time, we have Arabic songs arranged with quarter tones. Our aim is to show the real civilized image of the Arab world and to spread our rich Music.

Kokopelli has been a featured ensemble at many events, provincially, nationally, and internationally. these include the Rocky Mountain National Music Festival, Podium (the biannual conference of the Association of Canadian Choral Communities), the regional conference of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the International Society of Music Educators conference, and others. In addition to many North American cities, the Choir has toured to Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Malaysia, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Zambia. Kokopelli is often the ambassador for the Choir association and as such, has received several awards for their work with youth, Music education, and the African Projects Fund. Named after Lady Margaret Beaufort who founded St John’s College, Cambridge, the Choir cultivated a powerful and expressive sound combined with a clear, committed delivery of text. the membership comprises singers from across the UK embarking upon the early stages of their careers. Amongst its seminal projects were performances of James MacMillan’s Seven Last Words From the Cross and Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil. It is also hugely passionate about investing in the future of choral Music and has regularly commissioned new works from young composers such as Piers Kennedy (April & Nunc Dimittis) and Owain Park (For the Fallen). In 2018, the Beaufort Singers and Joseph Wicks founded the Boxgrove Choral Festival which gave the Choir its new home. After its enforced cancellation last year, 2021 saw the Festival’s return and its presentation online for the first time.  less

In mid-April, 2011, Ola spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus for a project in which he joined the Choir in recording 3 of his compositions. On this video, Gjeilo adds an improvised accompaniment (in a one-take rendition) to his setting of the Ubi Caritas text -- which is published as an unaccompanied piece. Because of his view that improvising is a wonderful snapshot of artists "at that moment", the project was entitled "In the Moment".  less
