We are students. We are friends. We all study at Stellenbosch University and believe in the power of music to uplift, entertain and educate. We aim to share our voices and talent with all who will listen!
Any person acquainted with student culture understands the important role of music and singing in the life of a young person. Acastella is a platform for young adults studying at Stellenbosch University to practice their love of singing.
Unfortunately the members got spread across the vast world and thus decided to stop Acastella at the end of 2013. less

Composed of about forty members, our group presents itself either as a women’s choir, or a men’s choir or mixed choir. Our repertoire is varied and original : Renaissance, classical, traditional or more contemporary rhythms such as jazz, afro-latino, or contemporary songs.
We celebrated in 2015 the thirtieth birthday of our association which has a long experience in exchange and sharing around choir singing. We have organized several festivals, masterclasses and various exchanges and thus contributed to the promotion of our region, the «département des Alpes-Maritimes» and to the development of choral singing (see examples below).
Over the past four years, The Mercantour Choirs (Les Choeurs du Mercantour) have had a particularly rich activity and have participated in important national and internation... less

The Hubbard Saga was written specially for Sale Festival 2001 and follows the antique antics of the fabulous dog of Old Mother Hubbard. The children's chorus echoes the barking of the dog whilst the adult choir takes us through the story. Then the children -- one by one tell us the story behind the poem itself.
The forces are:
Children's choir (in 2 parts)
Adult choir (SATB)
Flute
Clarinet
String quartet

This concert was the culmination of a six-week project which creates a choir from scratch for one Night only. Each winter and summer, Chris Rowbury gathers a random bunch of singers from in and around Ipswich. There are no auditions and all songs are taught and learnt by ear. Usually eight songs are learnt in six two-hour sessions and in the winter are performed at St. Peters by the Waterfront, Ipswich. http://chrisrowbury.com less
