They are also the c...  moreThe Birralee Blokes are the winners of the 2012 International Kathaumixw "Choir of the World" award and also the winners of the Youth Section in the same competition, held in Canada in July. They are also the current ABC Classic FM Choir of the Year. In addition to this they were judged Youth Choir of the Year and also received the Listeners' Choice Award. In 2008 they were part of the Channel 7 Battle of the Choirs TV show, making it as far as the quarter finals, where they met their Waterloo with ABBA's song of the same name. Membership is drawn from state and independent secondary schools and universities and there is a strong emphasis placed on inclusion for any young man who enjoys singing and expresses a desire to develop as a musician. It was founded in 1936 as the Dow Male Chorus with membership from the men of the Dow Chemical Company. In 1961, Dow discontinued its Music Department and the Chorus became the Men of Music and along with the rest of the Dow Music Department formed The Music Society under director Ted Vosburgh. Since then there were several women directors who continued to lead the Chorus. The Men of Music continues today providing excellant men's four part harmony with our present very talented director, Grace Marra, who joined the Chorus in 1994. We also appreciate the talents of Laurie Habedank who serves as our accompanist.  less
