It started out with one small group of friends made up of mostly teenagers. the group ...  moreFounded by friendship the choir was conceived in the minds of sisters Ana, Rita, and Cielo Bansuli together with their neighbor, sisters Melvic and Marivic Matalang. It started out with one small group of friends made up of mostly teenagers. the group was created 17th of August 1987 when a group of seminarians from St. Vincent had their apostolate together with the image of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal (name of Medallion was taken) at Metro Heights, Visayas Ave. Culiat, Quezon City and a choir was needed for the mass. the group started singing acapella during eucharistic celebrations and also singing at San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish every saturday evening mass. From 1988 to 1989, another group of seminarians, which is the Franciscans, lived in the community for more than a year and help the group in singing. In 1989, the Augustinians had their apostolate and both congregations accompanied the group in singing during masses. Concerts by the group feature a cappella music of Scandinavia and the Baltics, as well as North-American composers. Music by composers such as Mäntyjärvi, Daniel-Lesur, Rautavaara, Martin and Pärt are ideal showcases for the choir’s lush and full sound. Members of the group are dedicated to excellence in rehearsing and performing. With a repertoire consisting of 8 to 16-part music, the twenty singers are mostly performing as soloists. Now in its fifth season, voces boreales has already performed in a number of prestigious concert series, such as the National Arts Centre eXpres- sion series, Musique Chez Nous at Bishop's University, Mondial Choral Laval and the Montreal International Bach-Academy. the ensemble voces boreales is produced by the Montreal Choral Institute and appears in its various educational events, such as the Montreal Choral Masterclass.  less
