Since our...  moreBlend Vocal Association is a Calgary women’s vocal ensemble that was established in 2011. Our 14-member group unites in 3 and 4 part harmony. We share our love of singing by performing an entertaining selection of music from a variety of genres. Since our inception, we strive to engage all our audience members, from the musically sophisticated to first-timers. We enjoy bringing our performance art to the Calgary community. We perform at two major concerts per year as well as various community performances. As a distinctive and dynamic women’s vocal ensemble, we collaborate with local artists to perform unique arrangements of familiar and eclectic repertoire. Blend Vocal Association strives to unite in harmony and share our love of singing by performing a diverse and entertaining selection of musical styles. We ensure our musically sophisticated and first-time audience members leave our multiple-layered performances feeling entertained, upbeat and inspired.  less

In May, 2013, composer Ola Gjeilo spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus to join the choir in recording 4 of his pieces. The other three were "Sanctus", "Luminous Night of the Soul", and "Vast Eternal Skies" This performance of Gjeilo's "Ubi Caritas II" is from that session, which included a rendition on which the composer later joined the choir and improvised an accompaniment. In this video the choir sings the piece in its published (unaccompanied) version. This was Mr. Gjeilo's second time on our campus, the first was in the spring of 2011, which resulted in 5 videos and a DVD (http://goo.gl/Xld0o) As of 2013, the CWU Chamber Choir also has recorded videos of the music of Byrd, Monteverdi, Muehleisen, Singh, Victoria, and Rautavaara on YouTube.
