It is sung by Calaf, il principe ignoto (the unknown prince), who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. However, any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded. The video is an excerpt from a concert in Welshpool, UK. This performance was recorded on 5th December 2010 in the Harvey Nichols Espresso Bar in Leeds' magnificent Victoria Quarter in the first of St Peter's Singers' now-traditional annual series of Sunday evening carol concerts there. The choir is directed by Dr Simon Lindley, its Music Director since the Singers' formation in June 1977.
