PowerUp Gospel is definitely a highlight of our season. for the past 18 years, TMC has provided and expanded access to great gospel music and gospel music education in Canada by a hard-working team of volunteers. We are looking forward to the excitement, the networking, the music and so many uplifting and engaging experiences!
The past almost two years have indeed been challenging for our world but there have been some benefits—one of them has been the ability to expand our reach by putting PowerUp online in 2021! Preparing for PowerUp Gospel 2022, we decided to again have a virtual presentation of both weekends.
Early bird registration is open until January 31st. Visit the PowerUp website to register and for more details about the event: https://powerupgospel.ca/register less

It is open to all no matter what musical Background, if any you may have. We "sing for the the sheer joy of it" and do local concerts.
Recently we have sung at a large church inter-denominational christmas gathering and the highlight of the year to sing at a wedding at the request of the Bride and Groom.

David Rain: "Good King Wenceslas" (sung by Matthew Curtis)

Some Background:
I have sung the traditional version of Good King Wenceslas since I was a kid. I fell in love with the lyrics and the story, but have always been puzzled by the way it was arranged, in particular the way that the "las" of Wenceslas lands on the downbeat. When I was young, I thought the lyrics were actually "Good King Wences last looked out!"
All to say that I got inspired to create a totally different version. I used the 19th century poem by John Mason Neale, but I wanted to create a different "feel" to the story, to take it back in time to its origins in the Middle Ages - hence the medieval feel to much of the piece.
I also felt that since the Wenceslas story is all about a journey, a setting in 3/4 time would create a better sense of that feeling, ra... less

Background notes to 'The Witches' Dialogue'
On a rainy November morning, I was taking a walk with a friend. We found ourselves talking about a man who we knew only vaguely and who had been very ill for several years. We had heard recently that he was dying of cancer. The only thing we really knew about him was that he had lived a fairly miserable life.
My friend told me how she and two other women had once helped a dying man by holding his feet, letting him know that it was safe to let go.
Then we stopped short on the forest road and looked at each other.
‘I think we should hold his feet,’ one of us said.
‘Now?’
‘We can always try. Thoughts have power.’
So we closed our eyes, stood for minutes next to an old, gnarled tree, and focused on the man who we imagined as lying alone in a hospital bed.

O schöne Nacht!
Am Himmel märchenhaft
Erglänzt der Mond in seiner ganzen Pracht;
Um ihn der kleinen Sterne liebliche
Genossenschaft.
Es schimmert hell der Tau
Am grünen Halm; mit Macht
Im Fliederbusche schlägt die Nachtigall;
Der Knabe schleicht zu seiner Liebsten sacht -
O schöne Nacht!
