ALERON, being an all-male ensemble, is geared towards exploring the male Choral soundscape. Through innovative programming and the performance of repertoire across musical styles and genres, the group aims to deliver to its audiences a diverse and unique Choral experience. ALERON envisions to broaden the all-male Choral genre by continuously premiering new works of select resident composers and arrangers throughout its Concert seasons. The choir, which began at Brigham Young University as an early music ensemble, transformed into one of the premier non-collegiate Chamber groups in the Western United States. This award-winning ensemble achieves High performance standards by drawing on the rich musical heritage of the region. Many Cantorum singers have solo careers and all have sung with top collegiate ensembles. A number have also sung as members of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Utah Chamber Artists, and Salt Lake Vocal Artists. In addition, Cantorum is proud to have a High representation of talented Choral educators. The group won both of its categories at the 2016 Interkultur competition and received special commendation for their performance of Dale Warland and Hugo Distler.
