By participating in our choir program, youths not only develop new talents and improve Their cognitive abilities, but They also serve as mentors and positive role models for younger generations. Our unique approach promotes intergenerational collaboration and fosters a sense of community, ultimately leading to reduced youth unemployment rates and a decrease in crime rates. Founded in New York City in 2008 by Artistic Director Vince Peterson, The organization now encompasses: a roster of professional Ensemble singers, a volunteer chorus of 40-50 adults and an annual week-long Summer Institute in Brooklyn for composers and conductors. The culture of The organization marries informality, loving support and joyful curiosity, with The expectation of solid and technical musicianship, constant learning and openness toward The unexpected.  less

The University Chorale is The touring Ensemble for The choral department. The Ensemble performs a wide spectrum of The finest choral literature. The group performs extensively throughout The Southwest and will be singing at several venues in Washington D.C. during December of 2013. The group primarily consists of Vocal music majors, however, There are singers representing several oTher academic disciplines. The University Chorale has been under The direction of J. Steven Walker since 1984. Dr. Walker is The Director of Choral Activities and a Linscheid Distinguished Teaching Professor at East Central University. He has served on The music faculty at ECU since 1983.  less

By and by , They were ably assisted by highly interested and committed lay trainers cum teachers who went on to train prize winning choirs that stood out among schools and also were in great demand for national events. Concerts by The group feature a cappella music of Scandinavia and The Baltics, as well as North-American composers. Music by composers such as Mäntyjärvi, Daniel-Lesur, Rautavaara, Martin and Pärt are ideal showcases for The choir’s lush and full sound. Members of The group are dedicated to excellence in rehearsing and performing. With a repertoire consisting of 8 to 16-part music, The twenty singers are mostly performing as soloists. Now in its fifth season, voces boreales has already performed in a number of prestigious concert series, such as The National Arts Centre eXpres- sion series, Musique Chez Nous at Bishop's University, Mondial Choral Laval and The Montreal International Bach-Academy.
