It was first created by a few friends in 1991, Then enlarged over The years. It has been conducted by Stephan Nicolay since 2004. The choir aims to share quality music and new experiences with The audience. That is why La Sestina often performs with crossover arts on a main Theme e.g. French Renaissance chansons in 16th century cloThes with an actress, a cappella sacred contemporary music with dancers and video projection, Baroque French music with chamber orchestra and a lecturer, medieval Spanish music with mediterranean Ensemble of lutes and percussions, etc. Also, The choir aims at supporting humanitarian and social actions by offering one or several concerts each year. Many international NGO have benefited from These charity concerts such as Unicef, Unesco, Amnesty International, Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières and so on, but also very local associations. In The World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became The 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got The 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning ...  moreIn The World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became The 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got The 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning 2 more gold medals in 'Grand Prix of Choral Music' The champions competed in, The choir has come back to Turkey with a total of 5 gold medals.
