It is a medley of three 19th century Songs—"Dixie", a minstrel Song that became the unofficial anthem of the Confederacy since the Civil War; "All My Trials", originally a Bahamian lullaby, but closely related to African American spirituals, and well-known through folk music revivalists. Sung as part of a concert at St. Johns Church, Keynsham, on 6th April 2013 to raise funds for Motor NeurOne Disease Association.  One';">less

As a boy chorister I can remember singing Healey Willan's setting of "Rise up, my love", a true gem. The beautiful imagery of this text drew me to write my own setting. Sincere thanks to Matthew Curtis (choraltracks.com) for recording "Rise up, my love, my fair One." If you would like to obtain the sheet music for this Song, please contact: info@leadingnote.com. I would like to acknowledge the a cappella choir that I sing in, The Stairwell Carollers, and our director Pierre Massie, for their musical inspiration these past 26 years. I would also like to thank my friends in our "Ad hoc Chorale" for testing out this piece in One of our informal workshops and offering valuable comments. And with deepest appreciation to my brother Adam Rain and my friend Geneviève Lajoie for their invaluable support throughout my composing journey.  One';">less

We all love, we all hate, We all hope, and we all dream. We are One world, One people. And we all breathe the same. A tribe of many languages, A group of many heartaches, Fighting for peace among the land. Heja, heja, si-si ni moja. Heja, heja, si-si ni moja. Heja, heja, si-si ni moja. Heja, heja, we are One. We all want, we all need, We all seek passion, we all seek joy. We all bruise, we all scar, we all fail, but learn to thrive. We are One world, One people. And we all breathe the same. Recorded live on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by the Concert Choir ensemble of the Girl Choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson, Accompanist: Gayle Giese. Mother, please explain, what is love? Won't you tell me? Does One feel joy, or is it sad? How am I to know what of late befell me? For now my life no more is glad. Oh, tell me, is loving always kind? Suppose a gentle swain is sighing, Should I be denying? Not long since, to me came a shepherd fair Handsome as could be, and promptly he did swear That he loved me well. How could I tell? How could I tell? If he should come and say the same again, What shall I answer then? What shall I answer then? No One in the village compares with his beauty Whatever he may do or say Is so ful...    One';">less
