The Kinge's Quire was formed in 2008 to sing music from the Renaissance, as well as modern anthems and motets in the English Choral tradition. The group is dedicated to offering opportunity for young singers to sing advanced Choral literature.

The text for Be Near Me is Canto 50 from the poem In Memoriam A.H.H. by the British Poet Laureate Alfred Tennyson (1809 -1892). Published in 1850, the poem is an extended requiem for the poet's beloved friend Arthur Henry Hallam, who died of a cerebral hemorrhage in 1833, age 22. It is considered one of the greatest poems of the 19th Century and was reported to be a great favorite of Queen Victoria. As the introduction states, Eric Whitacre's famous "Sleep" was originally composed to Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", but when Whitacre realized the Frost estate was not releasing permission for musical settings of the poem, Charles Silvestri wrote the poem "Sleep" around the music Whitacre had written. To honor the inspiration the poem gave Mr. Whitacre, and to further honor all poets who inspire Choral composers, we presented this beloved piece with the original Frost lyrics.  less
