We live in the Isle of Man, a small island with a population of about 80,000 situated in the Irish Sea, between England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. It is a Crown Dependency which means it is a self governing possession of the British Crown. We are very proud of our parliament, Tynwald which claims to be the world's oldest parliament in continuous existence, dating back to 979. We also issue our own bank notes, coins and stamps and enjoy a unique perspective in terms of our language, (Manx Gaelic), history, music and art. It is a beautiful island with very varied scenery. Majority of the repertoire is arranged and composed by the members of the group, most of all by Laura Jēkabsone. The repertoire of Latvian Voices is wide: from Latvian folk songs and original compositions with lyrics from Latvian traditional folklore to examples of Classical music in inventive transcriptions. The concerts are usually enriched with arranged melodies of popular and worldwide known songs as well as modern original compositions by Latvian Voices.  less

Each Funky Voices rehearsal is taught by highly qualified and experienced music tutors. Sandra Colston BA Hons (Musical Director) arranges the music to suit the Choir members, and to bring the music up to date and possible for a Choir to sing. The Sound With passions for vocal harmonies, and personal influences being likes of; Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Luther Vandross, Brian McKnight, Michael Jackson. Atlantic Voices is an amateur Choir starting its tenth season with a repertoire consisting mainly of Newfoundland, Maritime, and Celtic songs and music. The goals of the Choir are: to represent and showcase Newfoundland and Maritime music and culture in the Ottawa area; to provide its members with the opportunity to learn, rehearse, and perform choral compositions; and to offer free of charge, musical entertainment to residents of retirement homes, hospitals etc., via in situ community concerts. Members of Atlantic Voices include singers from the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Ontario. Singers and musicians of all backgrounds are invited to join us and explore songs and music from both sides of the Atlantic.  less
