Mixed Choir "Vox Animae"
“Vox Animae” had been founded in October 2007 as a part of the University of Split (Croatia), and since December 2011 it had been functioning independently. Due to its diligent and devoted work, with repertoire including pieces by Croatian and other autho... more“Vox Animae” had been founded in October 2007 as a part of the University of Split (Croatia), and since December 2011 it had been functioning independently. Due to its diligent and devoted work, with repertoire including pieces by Croatian and other authors spanning from the Renaissance to the 21st century, the choir reached high quality of interpretation, soon recognized by audience. After many successful performances in Split and the region, the choir started to participate in various national and international choral competitions, having achieved notable results. Thus, the short but interesting history of the choir includes:
- 3rd place at “Croatian Choral Assembly” in 2009 and 2011, and 1st place at this competition in 2010, 2012 and 2013;
- two silver certificates at international choral competition “Slovakia Cantat 2010”;
- awards won at the competition “Cro Patria” (3rd award of the jury in 2010 and 1st award of the audience in 2012);

The Choir often performs at social events and Zagreb City events for tourists, and also regularly participates in domestic, national and international choral events, festivals and competitions.

The choir continues the tradition of the Akademski pevski Zbor v Ljubljani (Academic Choir of the University of Ljubljana) founded in 1926 by France Marolt, which consisted of male singers only. In the years between 1938 and 1940 Marolt also conducted the Female Academic choir. After the cultural silence held during the Second World War, the choir recommenced its activity, this time as a mixed choir under a new name, Akademski pevski Zbor Tone Tomšič. The choir has always been led by recognized conductors such as: France Marolt, Radovan Gobec, Janez Bole, Lojze Lebič, Igor Lavrič, Marko Munih, Jože Fürst, Jernej Habjanič and Stojan Kuret. From 2002 to 2009 it was led by conductor Urša Lah. Since October 2009 it is led by conductor Sebastjan Vrhovnik.

The group named DEKOR Chamber Choir is composed of experienced choral singers from various parts of Slovenia, who in the past used to sing in renowned Slovene and some foreign vocal ensembles. Driven by the desire of thorough preparation of quality choral projects, the choir works under the leadership of Slovene and foreign guest conductors.
The choir prepared their inaugural concert, entitled In the Beginning, in cooperation with young Finnish conductor Dani Juris The topic of creation coincided not only with the central composition of the concert, Copland’s In the Beginning, but also with the choir’s first public appearance and presentation of the concept of their work. Among the carefully selected works by Slovene and other authors, three were performed in Slovenia for the first time: Aaron Copland’s In the Beginning, Cyrillus Kreek’s Onnis on inimene (Blessed be the Man) and Ole Gjeilo’s Unicornis captivatur (Captured Unicorn).
