First and foremost, its name is closely associated with its first conductor Artūrs Bobkovics (1885-1959), who already then had become "the king of Latvian symphonic music". He organized the concerts of symphonic music and helped promote them. for the first time, the choir came together in the evening of October 18, when about 90 students gathered at Riga Secondary School No 2. The testing of voices was not very strict, and of the entire enthusiastic crowd only one student was rejected. Then, for a month, rehearsals were held, in which the voices of would-be singers were trained and made to keep in tune. After that another testing was held. This time the competition was much stricter, and only 40 singers were selected. That was the beginning of "Latvia University Student choir", which, on November 24, 1920, was recognized and affirmed by the University Council as the first official choir of the n... less

We are committed singers, who can prepare music independently before a short intensive rehearsal series, and have opportunities to perform some of the great works from the classical choral repertoire to a high standard and in exciting venues.
We also enjoy singing simple music well at smaller performances on our rehearsal weekends and at conference events.
Although our performances are mostly in Ireland, we have quite a few singers from other countries, including UK, France, Germany and Sweden.
During 2020, we have held online rehearsals using Zoom and produced two online concerts, raising 11,000 Euro for charity. less

The choir’s repertoire of sacred music ranges from the 16th to the 21st centuries, including a recently commissioned and premièred work by Roxanna Panufnik.
The choir sings to a cathedral standard every week at the Sung Eucharist on Sunday and Choral evensong every fourth Sunday. It also sings at special services during the year and goes on tour each summer. Recent tours have been to Bordeaux (2014). Dordodgne/Aquitaine (2013), and Rome (2011, 2012). less
