The choir consists of participants in workshop weeks, which are offered twice a year in different European countries. Overtone singing is a new Vocal technique that allows for singing two tones simultaneously. EOC sings compositions with written overtones as well as choir improvisations and contemporary music. The effect of controlled overtones on the timbre of classical choir compositions is explored with special ear training.

This concert will invoke the rich and varied musical cultures of the Eastern Orthodox, Jewish, Islamic, and nature-centered traditions that coexist throughout the region. Kitka's program features traditional and contemporary Balkan, Slavic, and Caucasian (Georgian and Armenian) repertoire sung in more than twelve languages.

FounDed in New York City in 2008 by Artistic Director Vince Peterson, the organization now encompasses: a roster of professional ensemble singers, a volunteer chorus of 40-50 adults and an annual week-long Summer Institute in Brooklyn for composers and conductors. The culture of the organization marries informality, loving support and joyful curiosity, with the expectation of solid and technical musicianship, constant learning and openness toward the unexpected.  less
