The organisation was set up by professional conductor, Emma Rowland, who suffers with anxiety and depression. Emma wanted to make choirs, and singing, more accessible to everyone. During the COVID lockdown, SOS has been offering FREE virtual choirs to the entire world. We're currently (June 2020) in 80 countries and working with thousands of singers each week. We've just launched our fourth project, an original song, ready to be made into a virtual choir video.  less

Our director is Linda Corcoran who also directs the current UK Champions ‘ The Great Western Chorus of Bristol’. We are actively recruiting new members and have ambitions for national and international performance. Almost all of our members are also in other choirs and 'the Feds' rehearse together only once per month on average, so it is possible to stay with your current choir and with us.

Their repertoire encompasses medieval plainchant, works from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras, contemporary and newly commissioned works. One could trace back choral singing at St. Benedict’s to the early years of the 20th.Century when La Sallian Christian brother expatriates from Europe inculcated in the local staff and student bodies , an appreciation of choral singing. They brought to our school the rich traditions of classical music that prevailed in Europe, at the time. By and by , they were ably assisted by highly interested and committed lay trainers cum teachers who went on to train prize winning choirs that stood out among schools and also were in great demand for national events. The history of the Benedictine choirs would not be complete without reference to the great English musician Rev.Bro. Hugh Farrington , ably assisted by Bonnie Fonseka.
