The choir is truly representative of the force with a...  moreThe Avon and Somerset Constabulary Male Voice Choir was formed in 1974 following the amalgamation of the Bath and Somerset, Bristol and the South Gloucester part of the Gloucestershire Constabulary. The choir is truly representative of the force with a membership consisting almost entirely of serving and retired police officers, serving and retired members of the support staff and the special constabulary. We want to maintain the tradition of choral singing in a pleasant social environment and we do so under the professional leadership and tuition of our musical director Alison Howell, accompanist Julie Payne and deputy accompanist Gemma Leach. We also want to share that musical tradition with the community, raise funds for local organisations and to act as ambassadors for the force. Away from the formal concerts however there is nothing the members like better than to sing and impromptu performances have taken place on cross channel ferries, in motorway services and in the odd pub or two. Male voice singing is traditio...  moreMevagissey is a small fishing village with a population of approximately 2,000 people. It is situated on the South coast of the County of Cornwall, the area of England protruding into the Atlantic Ocean facing North America. Male voice singing is traditionally very popular in the county, there being 33 federated choirs numbering 1,300 singers out of a total population of nearly half a million. The choir was formed in 1974 and quickly matured into one of the leading and largest male choirs in Cornwall. It now has over 55 members including several founder members. The choir gives around 25 concerts each year, raising many thousands of pounds for various charities. On the 10th July 2010 they celebrated their 900th public appearance. During a concert tour of Gibraltar in 1979 they performed in the famous St. Michael's Cave. Subsequent tours have been to Holland/Northern Germany, to the Black Forest area of Germany on two occasions and in 1990 the choir had a 14 day tour as guests of the Niagara Wine and Grape ...    less
