Ensemble Laude is a community of women united by a passion for choral music and The vision of our Artistic Director, Elizabeth MacIsaac. We celebrate The beauty and resilience of women’s vocal traditions through The ages and seek to share this art form through joyful, Soulful, and life-enhancing performances that gladden The heart, lift The spirit, and expand The mind.
Ensemble Laude began in 1998 with a group of 12 singers focused solely on medieval music. It has since expanded into a vibrant community choir of over 50 vocalists. Today, our Concerts offer an eclectic repertoire, mostly unaccompanied, encompassing early music, sacred and secular works, and folk and world music. “SweeTheart of The Sun"
Composed by Eric William Barnum
Text from “Ruth” by Thomas Hood
Text:
She stood so fair amid The corn
Clasped by The golden light of morn
Like The sweeTheart of The sun
Who many a glowing kiss had won
On her cheek an autumn flush
Deeply ripened;—such a blush
In The midst of brown was born
Like red poppies grown with corn
Round her eyes her tresses fell
Which were blackest none could tell
But long lashes veiled a light
That had else been all too bright
And her hat, with shady brim
Made her tressy forehead dim;—
Thus she stood amid The stooks
Praising God with sweetest looks:—
Sure, I said, heaven did not mean
Where I reap thou shouldst but glean
Lay thy sheaf adown and come
Share my harvest and my home
