Since then the choir has been not only one of the best choirs in it`s home country Latvia but also recognized and awarded in many international choir contests. the choir has participated in countless international choir festivals and performed abroad, for example, in Portugal, Japan, Canada, United States of America and many more. Founder of the choir was Mefodijs Skuja but the greatest achievments DZINTARS succeeded with perennial conductor Ausma Derkēvica. Since 2000 the conductor and Artistic Director is Aira Birziņa, chief conductor of the Nationwide Song Festival in Latvia, Professor of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, organizator of innumerable cultural projects and author of the concepts of many projects for avocational choirs. In August 2009, Mikko Sidoroff started his work as the choir’s conductor. the choir’s repertoire mainly consists of a wide variety of a cappella songs. the choir can be found performing in Turku as well as other cities many times throughout the year. Traditionally, there is a quartet concert in January, a spring concert right after May Day (Vappu) and an advent concert in December. the TYY choir has participated in many venues outside of Turku. the choir represented Finland in the international choir competition in Coleraine, Ireland in 2006. the competition could not have gone any better as the choir won in the category of mixed choir and was given the award as best choir.
