"Toccata" is often played in the full extent as "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor." This piece is one of the most famous works in Organ repertoire. This setting has been sung in Cathedrals in Manchester, Southwell and Dublin and the Agnus has also featured in services at Christ Church Didsbury. The recording here is the Agnus Dei sung by the Voluntary Choir of Manchester Cathedral during their visit to Southwell Minster.  less

This work reflects some of the history of Manchester as seen through the eyes of local poet Audrey Vaughan, including its origins around the river Irwell, the original monastery which became Manchester Cathedral, the industrial revolution, the Peterloo Massacre, and the singing of church and cathedral choirs up to the present day.
