The group was created 17th of August 1987 when a group of seminarians from St. Vincent had their apostolate together with the image of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal (name of Medallion was taken) at Metro Heights, Visayas Ave. Culiat, Quezon City and a choir was needed for the mass. The group started singing acapella during eucharistic celebrations and also singing at San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish every saturday evening mass.
From 1988 to 1989, another group of seminarians, which is the Franciscans, lived in the community for more than a year and help the group in singing. The Hazelnuts are a vocal trio, accompanied by guitar, contrabass & washboard, inspired by the American vocal groups of the 1930's. The group aims to expose the audience to the magic of this genre, which is almost completely forgotten.
The Hazelnuts' concert combines original songs - preserving the musical spirit of the genre and poured into a contemporary feminine point of view, and in addition - stylistic adaptations of cotemporary songs and authentic pieces from the thirties.
Band Members:
Yifeat Ziv, Talya Amzaleg, & Shira Z. Carmel – Vocals, Songs and Arrangements
Ariel Givant – Double Bass / Dotan cohen – Guitar / Yoav Elkayam – Washboard
