The folk clubs are full and the Folk Degree run at Newcastle University produces bands & duos plus there is a very strong singing tradtion up there. In the many workshops I attended when I lived up there... individual singers would sing 12 verses of a local folk song with no trouble at all. They are not necessarily called or run by Natural Voicers...Just a thought.
Around me there are some hybrid community choirs which are a mishmash of piano accompaniment teaching parts and lots of lusty singing without proper warm ups. But then it is middle England..with a demographic of church choirs etc.
I think you are right about cost but also I think the day of the one off workshop is numbered as singers possibly feel they don't fulfill the singing with others you know and leave one feeling a bit "ok that was great - what now"?. Just my opini... less
