The rousing performance was part of Gledholt MVC's Gala day which included performances from Elvis, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Pipe Band and also a Zumba class. There was also a concert in Huddersfield town hall in the evening. Since its formation in 1964, the choir appears annually at the Welsh Proms and has performed with many of the world’s leading conductors, orchestras and soloists including: Sir Colin Davies; Sir Andrew Davies; Tadaaki Otaka; Owain Arwel Hughes; The London Symphony Orchestra; BBC National Orchestra of Wales; The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; Raphael Wallfisch, Luciano Pavarotti; Dame Kiri Te Kanawa; Felicity Lott and Bryn Terfel. It was first created by a few friends in 1991, then enlarged over the years. It has been conducted by Stephan Nicolay since 2004. The choir aims to share quality music and new experiences with the audience. That is why La Sestina often performs with crossover arts on a main theme e.g. French Renaissance chansons in 16th century clothes with an actress, a cappella sacred contemporary music with dancers and video projection, Baroque French music with chamber orchestra and a lecturer, medieval Spanish music with mediterranean ensemble of lutes and percussions, etc. Also, the choir aims at supporting humanitarian and social actions by offering one or several concerts each year. Many international NGO have benefited from these charity concerts such as Unicef, Unesco, Amnesty International, Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières and so on, but also very local associations.
