Ably assisted by, now ...  morethe Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir (TWMVC) was established in 1995 gathering together a group of like-minded individuals of Welsh heritage sought to kindle the spirit of traditional Welsh male voice singing in their adopted country. Ably assisted by, now emeritus, music director David Low, the founding members saw their numbers grow to a membership of sixty choristers. the choir continues to grow musically under the direction of William Woloschuk and accompanist Matthew Coons. Although many of the current members still lay claim to Welsh connections, the TWMVC now has members from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. the TWMVC proudly draws on the great Welsh tradition of singing hymns and songs born of the mountains and valleys of Wales. Using the simple view that a good song is a good song, has meant that they bring together a collection of pieces that appeal to a wide audience. the choir delights in introducing new songs that are connected by their unique choral sound, rather than from a particular genre and it is this wide appeal and their sense of fun that has meant the group is in constant demand and continually attracts new members. Even in its early days the choir never quite conformed to the accepted norms of what should be included in their repertoire. We took part of our rehearsal last night to honor Black History Month and celebrate the diversity of our Chorus. What better way to celebrate than with song. We chose "Oh Happy Day"' a late '60s gospel song with its roots from an 18th-century hymn.

As a choir, the Consort has a wide repertoire, ranging from Early Church music through to Folksongs and modern works. Each programme is different and reflects the wishes of those for whom we perform. Since the Consort’s formation it has raised, through its choral concerts, many thousands of pounds for a wide range of charities and churches. It is always glad to consider invitations from such organisations. Its services are given voluntarily, although a contribution towards its music library and other expenses is gratefully received. We would love to come and sing to you and help you raise much needed funds for your cause.
