Dozan wa Awtar Singers received two Gold Diplomas for its participation in the 8th World choir Games held in Riga, Latvia this year. The Games included twenty seven thousand singers from four hundred choirs representing seventy three countries. Dozan wa A...  moreDozan wa Awtar Singers received two Gold Diplomas for its participation in the 8th World choir Games held in Riga, Latvia this year. The Games included twenty seven thousand singers from four hundred choirs representing seventy three countries. Dozan wa Awtar, under the leadership of its Founder and Director Shireen Abu Khader, competed in two categories: Scenic Folklore and Mixed choirs; singing Arabic songs in both and receiving a Gold Diploma in each category. This is the first time Jordan is represented in an international choral competition. On this occasion, Shireen Abu Khader expressed her immense pride at this accomplishment and international recognition and commended the continuous efforts of the singers which led to this achievement. She also thanked all those who have given both financial and moral support to the choir, as this could not have been achieved without their help. Tomislav Veršić in the school year 1992/93 by merging two school ensembles founded a year earlier: Girls’ choir, and traditional Dalmatian male vocal group (so-called “klapa”) “Šufit”. At the end of the following school year, the choir participated for the first time at the Croatian Youth Music Festival, choral competition which is traditionally held in Varaždin, thereby winning the Silver Plaque. In 1996 the performance of the choir at the same event was rewarded with Gold Plaque. After this success, the choir received new, more experienced members, and began to act as the Mixed choir of Cultural and Artistic Association “Aspalathos”. Although new ensemble soon became well recognized and multiply awarded, it ceased to be a part of the school and thus of this historical review as well.
