Text & Translation:
Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
(Where kindness and love are, God is there.)
Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor.
(Gather us all as one in Christ’s Love.)
Exsultemus, et in ipso jucundemur.
(Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad!)
Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum.
(Let us fear, and love the living God.)
Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero.
(and diligently bind our hearts to each other in sincerity.)
Deus ibi est.

The Lea Singers' latest CD -- 'Jubilea' -- features almost exclusively English Music (with the exception of the final item -- the 'Ave maris stella' from the Monteverdi Vespers); and the English Music represented ranges from sacred and secular favourites -- Howells' 'Like as the hart' and Sullivan's 'The long day closes' -- to works commissioned from contemporary composers (Judith Bingham's 1997 work 'Gleams of a remoter world' and a setting of the Nunc Dimittis, written in 2010 by one of the Choir's own basses, John Pickard). The CD is expertly conducted by the Choir's Musical director, James Sherlock and guest instrumentalists are 17-year old Edward Picton-Turbevill on the organ and award-winning young cellist James Barralet playing the solo part in Sir John Tavener's 'Svyati' for cello and Choir. The vocal blend throughout is first-rate and the choral sound is refined. There are a number of vocal solos on offer in many of the pieces and all are performed with aplomb -- I parti... less

In this time the Choir has participated in the Madrid Community Choir contest, obtaining the first prize in 2009 and 2010, and the secón prize in 2007 and 2008
Within the Choir activities, we could also mention their participation in theatre productions of the Musicals Persephone and Midas by Steve Pogson, with which they obtained the first prize in the Vademorillo theatre contest. They were also awarded first prize in the Community of Madrid theatre contest, with the Musical Super Jim, a play which was written specially for the Choir by the British authors Steve Pogson and George Simmers.
The work of the Choir is not solely centred on the training of new singers and preparing concerts, since its beginning we have firmly believed that a junior Choir should be innovative, and, year after year the Choir has sought after original works by Spanish auth... less
