In 2003, Matjaž Šček, The conductor of The group, was replaced by Andreja Martinjak, who performed regularly with The choir and took part in national and international choir competitions where The choir as well as The conductor were winning numerous prizes and awards. The greatest achievements of The choir include a gold plaque, awarded in The 20th Slovenian national choir competition, Naša pesem (Our song) 2007 and The second place in The 9th international choir competition in Maribor 2008, where The choir also won a special prize for The best Slovenian choir of The competition. In 2008 we celebrated The 80th anniversary of The birth of Slovenian composer Pavle Merkú with a special cycle of concerts. They have received media exposure on radio and television programs and were featured in a special television program celebrating The Millennium year which was broadcasted to 60 countries worldwide. In 2004, The ensemble was invited to a concert tour in Germany and was warmly received by The critics. The Surrey Children's Choir family represents 3 choirs, a Junior Training Choir, an Intermediate Training Choir, and The Senior Surrey Children's Choir. The "family" also includes older levels, a treble chamber choir, a mixed young adult chorus...  moreThe Surrey Children's Choir family represents 3 choirs, a Junior Training Choir, an Intermediate Training Choir, and The Senior Surrey Children's Choir. The "family" also includes older levels, a treble chamber choir, a mixed young adult chorus, and a community adult chorus. The Junior and Intermediate Training Choirs (JTC and ITC) provide a program of sequentially developed skills which prepare choristers for admission into The Surrey Children's Choir. The training choirs perform annually at The Family Christmas Concert and Year End concert (held in May of each year). They also often compete at The Fraser Valley Kiwanis Music Festival, always with great results. The training choirs may also perform at various events in The community. The SCC, a treble-voice choir of boys and girls aged 12-18 is a consistent gold medal winner at local festivals, hailed by Gerald Van Wyck, Vancouver Community College professor as "one of The best children's choirs in Canada".
