As one of the University's finest Vocal groups, they pride themselves on their versatility. This group of amazing, talented and hardworking people arrange and perform music from all different genres, ranging from jazz, hip hop, R&B, and pop. The Choir performs concerts each semester and also sings at Remembrance Day ceremonies, convocation ceremonies, and other events on campus and in the community. We are a volunteer, non-auditioned group open to all, but Choir members are expected to regularly attend rehearsals and the semester retreat, and to practice their parts on their own time. We usually put up practice files under “Resources” (members-only access) so that you can download your part and listen to it on whatever portable music-playing device you own. No musical experience is needed, but the ability to read music is an asset (if you can't read music, we'll help you learn).  less

The objective was to bring about musical performances...  moreThe LAZ EKWUEME CHORALE was founded in October 1974 with a view to getting together in a small Choir the best available and professionally trained singers in Lagos, the then Federal Capital of Nigeria. The objective was to bring about musical performances (of choral works by foreign and Nigerian composers) of sufficiently high standard for international consumption, within the limitations of national resources. The CHORALE which has grown in size to over 100 singers has given numerous concerts in Lagos and other towns in Nigeria, including Aba, Abakaliki, Abeokuta, Abuja, Benin, Calabar, Eket, Enugu, Ibadan, Ife, Nsit Atai, Oko, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Umuahia and Uyo. It has performed many times on Radio and Television and has featured on many State, National and International functions. It was the nucleus of the Nigerian National Choir for FESTAC 77.
