The Winneba Youth Choir, known to be The number one Choral music group in The country was founded in May 1989, under The patronage of Mr. George Mensah-Essilfie and Mr. John Francis Arthur-Yamoah (Paa John). The Choir has progressed steadily to The extent that it is now recognized as The most outstanding Youth Choir of The nation. Tomislav Veršić in The School year 1992/93 by merging two School ensembles founded a year earlier: Girls’ Choir, and traditional Dalmatian male vocal group (so-called “klapa”) “Šufit”. At The end of The following School year, The Choir participated for The first time at The Croatian Youth Music Festival, Choral competition which is traditionally held in Varaždin, Thereby winning The Silver Plaque. In 1996 The performance of The Choir at The same event was rewarded with Gold Plaque. After this success, The Choir received new, more experienced members, and began to act as The Mixed Choir of Cultural and Artistic Association “Aspalathos”. Although new ensemble soon became well recognized and multiply awarded, it ceased to be a part of The School and thus of this historical review as well. It is made up of Boys, girls, women and men from all walks of life and with many levels of musical expertise and experience, who give of Their time and talent on an entirely voluntary basis to sing to a professional standard. Membership of The Choir currently stands at around thirty-five adults and sixteen to twenty children. The Choir’s principal function is to provide The music and help lead The worship at The CaThedral’s two main services every Sunday: Sung Eucharist at 10.30 am and Choral Evensong at 6.30 pm. Services are preceded by a rehearsal, and There is a rehearsal once a week, currently on Thursday evenings.
