As the introduction states, Eric Whitacre's famous "Sleep" was originally composed to Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", but when Whitacre realized the Frost estate was not releasing permission for musical settings of the poem, Charles Silvestri wrote the poem "Sleep" around the music Whitacre had written. To honor the inspiration the poem gave Mr. Whitacre, and to further honor all poets who inspire choral composers, we presented this beloved piece with the original Frost lyrics. less

Today the Ensemble consists of tenors Christian Pohlers and Paul Heller as well as basses Felix Hübner, Lucas Heller and Lukas Lomtscher. Their repertoire ranges from late medieval mass songs to modern age works. The five young musicians attach great importance to the works of German Romantic composers, such as Schubert, Schumann and Mendelssohn Bartholdy, as well as to their extensive repertoire of church music.
The Ensemble successfully collaborates with a number of other artists, such as the composer Manfred Schlenker(GER), who dedicated his motet Gott wohnt in einem Lichte to the quintet, on a regular basis. Volker Bräutigam wrote several pieces for them to perform during the festivities at the 35th Leipziger Jazztage. The Vocal Ensemble Sjaella has been another partner in numerous successful collaborations throughout the years.

Qui me consolera
dans la nuit noire,
la nuit plus noire
que les hommes
Non pas celle où l’on entre
pour mieux sentir le monde,
non pas celle qui contraint
à l’infini
par sa clarté soudaine
Non pas encore la nuit
de nos murmures roses,
et que j’entends
ton regard qui m’excède
et la respiration de l’enfant
(car il revient,
analogie des anges)
Qui me consolera
sans toi, sans lui
qui nous aime
---
Who will console me
in the dark night,
the night
darker than men
Not the one where we enter
to feel better the world,
not the one that constrains
to infinity
by its sudden clarity
Not yet night
of our pink whispers,
and that I hear
your look that exceeds me
and the breath of the child
(for he returns,
analogy of angels)
Who will console me
without you, without him
who loves us
