"Ladies of Melody Choir"
A specialized female Choir in singing the Syrian, Levantine, and Arab heritage.
The "Ladies of Melody Choir" was founded in the city of Tartus in November 2022 by Maestro Bishr Issa, a graduate of the Higher Institute of Music and a Musician in the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra. He was also the former conductor of the "Chamber Choir of the High Institute of Music" in Damascus, and the conductor of the "Urjwan Choirs" in Tartous.
The main goal of establishing the "Ladies of Melody Choir" was to highlight the role of Arab women in the cultural and Musical scene, introduce the culture of choral and collective singing in its contemporary concept to the local artistic culture, and revive the authentic Musical heritage of the Levant and the Arab world, which has begun to disappear and decline in the face of superficiality and degradation dominating the general Arab artistic scene. In addition to dedicating Arabic singing in its ... less

Music composed and performed by David W Solomons [aka the dwsChorale].
This particular setting was composed with a small mixed-ability Choir
in mind, so the voices are mainly in two parts (men's and women's voices),
splitting to four parts (SATB) occasionally, where the words suggest it.
The Musical style is reminiscent of the 19th century although the piano
part does go into 20th century style syncopation at times.

Poetry by Alfonsina Storni
Two Words
Tonight you murmured two simple words
into my ear. Two words shopworn
from use. Words so old, they are new.
Two words so sweet the moon
floating beyond the trees' branches
pauses to fill my mouth. Words so
melodious, when an ant inches up my neck,
I make no move to brush it off.
A pair of words so sweet that despite
myself I say "How lovely life is."
Calming, gentle, they are like
scented oils poured over my body.
So sweet and beautiful
and my nervous fingers
rise toward heaven in
imitation of scissors.
Yes, tonight my fingers
would cut out the stars. less
