Many members of the Choir are Choral scholars, some are at music college, and most hope to make a career in music. Since its foundation by Ralph Allwood in 1984, the Choir have toured extensively in Europe, and have also appeared throughout the United Kingdom at venues great and small, including St John's, Smith Square and some of the country's most glorious cathedrals.  less

We are based in Chicago's western suburbs. ECU performs two major concerts each season with full professional orchestra musicians and pro soloists, and also a mini-concert of our singers in solos and duets with piano. We often appear as featured guest artists with Elmhurst Symphony and in local appearances. Our outstanding volunteer singers come from throughout the Chicago area for a unique musical experience. Our conductor James MacDonald has directed choirs and orchestras throughout the U.S. and overseas, and teaches conducting and music theory. ABOUT THE COMPOSER: Ola Gjeilo (pronounced Yay-lo) was born in Norway in 1978, and moved to the United States in 2001 to begin his composition studies at the Juilliard School in New York City. Ola’s concert works are performed all over the world, and his debut recording as a pianist-composer, the lyrical crossover album Stone Rose, was followed by its 2012 sequel, Piano Improvisations. Many of Ola’s Choral works are featured on Phoenix Chorale’s bestselling Northern Lights album, which is devoted entirely to his music for choir.
