This a-Cappella 4-voice version uses three altos and one bass, a Cappella. It explores a couple of alternative modes for the theme: Octatonic and Dorian. Die fließenden Rhythmen in Christina Georgina Rossettis Gedicht führen wie von selbst zu einer melodischen Vertonung. Die Sopran- und Tenorstimmen wechseln sich ab, indem sie jeweils die Melodie der Strophen 1 bzw. 2 singen, während die anderen Stimmen beschwingt und jazzig begleiten. Ein Tonartwechsel am Beginn der dritten Strophe, zusammen mit kanonischen Einsätzen in den Oberstimmen, steigert die Energie des Stückes zu neuen Höhen, das seine Krönung in einer sehr jazzigen Schlusskadenz findet. ______________________ http://www.helblingchoral.com/?pagename=product&product=C7677 The choral piece Birthday was composed in 2014 for Auckland-based a Cappella group “Laudamus”.
