芬蘭當代知名作曲家勞塔瓦拉(Einojuhani Rautavaara, 1928-),節選四首二十世紀著名西班牙詩人羅卡(FederícoGarcía Lorca, 1898-1936)的詩作譜成,樂曲帶有神秘主義思維,以強烈的頑固節奏、尖銳的和聲和戲劇張力,刻畫羅卡一貫帶有悲劇色彩的詩詞,本曲亦是勞塔瓦拉最具代表性的作品,四個樂章各有千秋,一氣呵成:
1. 騎士之歌(Canción de jinete)
男低音演唱頑固低音貫穿全曲,象徵著騎士所騎的矮黑馬不停的往前走,而女聲扮演敘事者角色,並利用不諧和音程表現出詭譎緊張的氣氛。
2. 尖嘯(El Grito )
作曲家以現代音樂的滑音技巧模擬奸嘯聲,營造神祕驚悚的畫面。
3. 月亮探出頭來(La lunaasoma)
樂章起始,以女聲的同音、二度轉換,製造音響張力,敘述故事場景,並使用滑音營造出無亙的空間感。接著,透過下三聲部平行和弦烘托出夜晚的色彩,女高音獨唱突破凝重的氣氛,最後回到一開始的同音二度轉換技法,相互呼應。
4. 馬拉加女孩(Malagueña)
男低音回溯第一樂章的頑固低音,形容死神急切的的腳步聲,上三聲部仍使用大量平行和弦闡述故事脈絡,歌詞重複之後,其他聲部陸續加入八分音符頑固音型,表現死神的逼近。
